DOHA Climate Resilience Initiative: Alfalfa Plantation for Stronger Watersheds
The DOHA Climate Resilience Department has launched an alfalfa plantation program to restore degraded watershed catchment areas. These vulnerable zones face soil erosion, water loss, and declining vegetation—pressures made worse by climate change.
Alfalfa, a deep-rooted and drought-resistant crop, helps stabilize soil, improve water infiltration, and rebuild natural ground cover. Its strong root system prevents erosion, enriches soil nutrients, and boosts moisture retention, while also supporting local biodiversity.
In addition to restoring the environment, the initiative provides sustainable fodder for farmers, strengthening livelihoods and long-term agricultural resilience.
Through this effort, DOHA is promoting healthier ecosystems and more climate-resilient communities.
